Individuals in our Mood Disorder track may continue to receive other treatments such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for refractory depression as a comprehensive approach to care. Our Dialectical Behavioral Therapy track is primarily for patients with borderline personality disorder and other severe personality disorders. The IOPs have specialized treatment tracks, fostering a supportive and empathic environment for recovery. Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), available for adults, adolescents and children, provide an intensive course of treatment involving attendance at the program 2-4 days per week for at least 3 hours per day. Our outpatient programs are for those who have achieved stability or in an effort to prevent inpatient hospitalization. Outpatient Services Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) We offer inpatient, intensive outpatient and a partial hospitalization program. The Children's Psychiatric Inpatient Service (CPIS) combines the unique resources of Yale New Haven Children's Hospital with the world-renowned faculty of Yale School of Medicine departments of child psychiatry (Yale Child Study Center) and pediatrics. Our team includes geriatric board-certified psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, social workers and occupational therapists who focus on issues related to quality of life and reintegration into home or supportive settings. The most commonly treated diagnoses include psychotic disorders, mood disorders and dementia. Older adults often have both medical and psychiatric problems, adding a level of complexity to ensuring appropriate and successful treatment. We work with families, schools and other community agencies to help the adolescent have a positive transition back to home after an inpatient hospitalization. Understanding the unique needs of adolescents is critical to providing the most effective treatment within the context of the special emotional, cognitive and social development of adolescents. Our adolescent unit treats patients ages 14 to 17. Our team incorporates a variety of treatment options including psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, development of effective coping mechanisms, medication management and education about mental illness. The ability of the individual to develop positive, healthy skills for decision-making will enhance his/her ability to have a full and productive life. Transitional Aged YouthĪges 16 to 26 is a critical time in the development of all individuals, and if complicated by the first onset of a mental illness, requires prompt and thorough treatment. Upon discharge, patients are often referred to our Intensive Outpatients Mood Disorder treatment program, providing continuity of care. Patients who suffer from a mood disorder such as depression, anxiety, or refractory mania, will find a team of psychiatric experts who use innovative, evidenced-based treatments for our patients. One of our distinct units provides comprehensive treatment for mood disorders. The team works together closely to integrate biological, family systems, and psychosocial and life skills approaches to help patients achieve their highest level of wellbeing. The psychiatrist leads the multidisciplinary team providing a variety of treatments including medication management, group and individual therapy and family support. Our skilled staff provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, initiates stabilizing treatments and develops a recovery-oriented aftercare plan. We offer a range of treatments and interventions for children and adolescents who are struggling with traumatic reactions and disorders following violent or overwhelming events.Our inpatient units treat patients with the most common and most disabling psychiatric disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and other major psychiatric conditions. When children and adolescents experience overwhelming events, some of them go on to develop symptoms of trauma including intrusive thoughts, heightened awareness, aggression, sleep disturbances, difficulty in school or other behavioral problems. We specialize in the evaluation and treatment of children and families who have experienced a traumatic event. For more than two decades, we have translated direct clinical experience and advances in scientific and practical knowledge into groundbreaking interventions for traumatized children and families. The multi-disciplinary team of the Yale Center for Traumatic Stress and Recovery (YCTSR) provides trauma-informed treatments and services to children and families, builds professional knowledge through clinical research, and advances the field of child trauma treatment through collaboration, training, and dissemination.
